1. FC Cologne | Baumgart confirms: Top talent banned from the squad

He hasn’t really had a chance in the Bundesliga so far and has made two appearances as a substitute in the past season. Now the chapter 1. FC Köln for homegrown Justin Diehl could soon have been completely done. At least that’s what head coach Steffen Baumgart recently confirmed.

Instead of continuing to try with the ambitious Bundesliga team, Diehl is probably aiming for a change of club.

“Justin informed us that he does not see his future at FC. We showed him a clear sporting perspective and he decided against this perspective,” Effzeh coach Steffen Baumgart explained to the “Kölner Stadtanzeiger”.

The offensive player recently played mainly in the Domstadt U19s and should really gain a foothold with the pros in the upcoming pre-season.

But obviously nothing will come of it, as Diehl is drawn out of his native town.

Baumgart deletes Diehl from the professional squad of 1. FC Köln

Steffen Baumgart reacted to the 18-year-old’s rejection of a future together and created facts for his part. The head coach no longer sees any basis “for us to develop him in the professional squad”. Accordingly, Baumgart deleted the striker from his squad for the upcoming pre-season.

Until a final decision is made about the future of the German U19 national player, he will probably train in the second team of 1. FC Köln, which starts in the Regionalliga West.

Justin Diehl is currently under contract with Effzeh until 2024. It is not yet known whether there are already concrete prospects for the teenager, who to date can only look back on two brief assignments at professional level. The top talent already played for 1. FC Köln at the age of seven.
