1. FC Saarbrücken drew 1-1 against promoted team VfB Lübeck on Tuesday evening. After an early lead goal for Lübeck, the FCS ran after the equalizer for a long time. Then he fell after all – literally at the last minute.
The guests from Lübeck, more than 700 kilometers away, got off to a better start in the game. After eleven minutes, Jannik Löhden scored the opening goal with a header from a corner.
After that, the FCS initially had a hard time getting into the game. Lübeck was very compact on defense. The FCS failed to create clear scoring opportunities and remained too passive at times. So we went into the locker room with the score 0:1.
FCS active but unsuccessful for a long time in the 2nd half
In the second half of the game, the FCS finally became more awake and active. For a long time it looked as if the equalizer was only a matter of time. But Lübeck defended well.
In the 84th minute, Patrick Sontheimer had to leave the field with yellow and red. He kicked Mirko Boland in the abdomen as he was about to jump for a header. Being outnumbered, it seemed as if the FCS could no longer make up the deficit in the last few minutes.
Last minute compensation
But literally in the last minute (90th + 10th) the FCS was able to equalize: Amine Naifi circled a corner from the left directly into the far corner.
The FCS continues next Saturday. He travels to Aue for the big game. Kick-off is at 4:30 p.m.
