This weekend there will be plenty of top sport in North Holland again. We will keep you informed of all developments via our live blog.
RC ‘t Gooi (third) and RFC Haarlem (fourth) have qualified for the semi-finals for the title. The rugby players from Naarden beat Castricum (45-20), while the team from Haarlem had enough of a hard defeat (86-14). Castricum finished fifth and is ready for this season.
The semifinals are on May 20. Haarlem then plays RC Eemland, which finished first, and ‘t Gooi against Haagsche RC. A possible final is on Whit Monday (May 29). RC Hilversum has been relegated for a while in the other group.
HV Aalsmeer and HV Volendam have been in a fierce battle for second place for weeks. That ranking gives the right to the play-offs for the national championship over three games. Volendam defeated Bevo (27-20) today, while Aalsmeer built confidence against Tachos (36-20).
The difference between the two handball teams is currently one point in favor of Aalsmeer. Next Tuesday there will be a make-up match between Aalsmeer and Volendam. The winner of that game takes a big step towards the play-offs.
As exciting as the first half was, the second is so boring so far. There haven’t been any great opportunities yet.
Owen Wijndal has entered the field at Ajax. The former AZ player replaces Mohammed Kudus.
Double celebration for the water polo club ZV De Zaan. The men’s team qualified tonight by winning Polar Bears 14-10. That was enough for a place in the final after the earlier victory (17-10). The opponent is GZC Donk or AZC.
The women have also qualified after two games. They were twice too strong for UZSC (14-8 and 13-5). Their opponent is well known, that is GZC Donk.
A very entertaining North Holland meeting between Ajax and AZ. The team from Amsterdam had chances through Brian Brobbey and Steven Bergwijn, while Tijjani Reijnders also had the 1-0 on his shoe.
AZ has not lost in the last three Eredivisie matches with Ajax. It became 2-1 for AZ twice and 2-2 once. If you look at the last eight games (since 2018/19), the Alkmaarders won five times. With that they have taken sixteen against Ajax, no team was more successful against the team from Amsterdam in the same period.
However, the balance in mutual matches in Amsterdam is again well in favor of Ajax. The derby against AZ was played 44 times and the home team won 34 matches. The Alkmaarders won four times. Ajax scored 129 hits in all those matches and AZ 39.
