Zoetermeer youth hand out presents in the city center: ‘We want to do something good’

“Madam, we can offer you this bag. It’s free.” The Zoetermeer youth Kane and Ashly are at McDonald’s in the Stadshart and appeal to shoppers. “We want to do something good for the people.”

Kane and Ashly are on and around Promenadeplein together with their classmates from Onc Clauslaan. The school had devised an assignment in which the students had to come up with something good for fellow human beings. “We first wanted to buy food and hand it out to Zwervers in The Hague. But we finally thought something else,” says Ashly.

Flowers and candy

With the Community Heroes NL* process, the students made up a sweet action to give people a smile on their face. With the budget they bought candy and roses and they divided them over 31 cardboard bags. The youngsters wrote a personal message to the recipient on paper and put it there.

Indiscriminate

They left for the city center to hand out the presents there in two hours. A positive action and a sweet gesture of the students of Onc Clauslaan. Most people take the bags with a smile, but not everyone responds nicely. Kane: “Evering people in particular sometimes look at us angry and walk on quickly. Maybe they think we want to sell them something or something.”

Beautiful and beam

The editors of Indebuurt also received a gift bag with a pink and a red rose. They are now a bit faded because of the warm weather. The bag contains two notes with a handwritten text: Enjoy, enjoy, dance. Beautiful and radius. Don’t choose one but do it all! And If you think less, you can do more than you thought. That’s just like that!
