Zelensky repeats call for boycott of Russian oil

Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelensky has again called for an import ban on oil from Russia. “If tyranny has launched an attack against everything on which peace rests in Europe, we must act immediately,” he said in a video message published Saturday night.

In his view, an oil embargo should be the first step for the “all civilized world. Then Russia will feel it. Then it will be an argument for the country to seek peace, to put an end to senseless violence”. According to Zelensky, the democratic world should certainly be able to do without Russian oil.

The goal of the “anti-war coalition” is clear: to end the war faster, the president emphasizes. “Therefore, it is not only a moral obligation of all democratic states, of all forces in Europe, to support Ukraine’s desire for peace.” He says Russian aggression will not be limited to his country. “The whole European project is a goal for Russia.”

Ukraine has been defending itself for 45 days. “Did they think in Moscow that this would happen on the 45th day after their invasion of Kiev? No, they couldn’t even imagine that. And we’re putting it into practice.” Still, more sanctions against Russia and more weapons for Ukraine are needed, the Ukrainian president said.
