Zalando and Sephora are ending their partnership

Zalando and the French beauty chain Sephora have ended their collaboration after two years.

The two companies started the “strategic partnership” in Germany in 2021 and in Italy in 2022. As part of the long-term collaboration, the LVMH subsidiary Sephora was to join the Zalando partner program and “be Zalando’s strategic partner for prestige beauty in all European countries in which the partnership is active,” Zalando said at the time. Zalando had previously expressed interest in expanding the beauty sector, with Sephora particularly interesting because of its over 300 prestige and exclusive brands.

“After evaluating the two pilots and examining the next steps, we came to the conclusion that we can best exploit the full potential in the beauty sector independently of the current partnership,” said a Zalando spokeswoman when asked. “We have therefore jointly and amicably made the decision to end our collaboration with Sephora in the next few months.”

In the future, the goal is to establish direct partnerships with beauty brands in Germany and Italy, analogous to the model that Zalando also has in the other markets where the beauty category is offered.
