Any nationalistic and xenophobic statements are unacceptable – this is the principled position of the Russian Foreign Ministry. Official representative of the department Maria Zakharova, speaking at a briefing, she assessed the Russophobic quotes of the new Minister of Information and Social Development in the Kazakh Cabinet, Askar Umarov.

Umarov is known for his calls not to celebrate Victory Day, calling the Great Patriotic War “a foreign war, into which Kazakhstan was dragged.” In social networks under the nickname TurkMedia, Umarov called Russia “Rashka”, and Russians – “Rusnya”. The Russian-speaking population of Kazakhstan was honored by him with the epithet “imposed diaspora”, etc. On the eve of the Head of Rossotrudnichestvo Yevgeny Primakov refused to maintain contacts with Umarov.

Zakharova stressed that the selection of candidates for the post of ministers is a sovereign affair of Kazakhstan. Umarov himself said that in his previous positions he tried to conduct “fruitful work with Russian partners.”
