Tour de France
In the Vosges mountains near the German border, the competition heated up as the climbers clashed during the final ascent. Among them, German cyclist Florian Lipowitz made a strong impression, finishing seventh while facing fierce competition.
Florian Lipowitz’s Impressive Performance
Florian Lipowitz, at just 25 years old, felt the overwhelming support of thousands of German fans cheering him up the steep slopes. “I must give a huge thank you to all the fans. It was incredible. I heard my name so many times,” he said after the thrilling experience at the Tour de France. Despite his efforts, he fell short of achieving more than seventh place. “The legs weren’t enough for more,” he admitted on ARD, though he managed to climb to sixth overall in the rankings.
Race Highlights
The 2026 Tour de France has showcased the dominance of reigning champion Tadej Pogačar, who secured his fourth stage win on the 14th stage, extending his lead in the general classification. The Slovenian powerhouse finished the race solo after 155.3 kilometers and 3,800 vertical meters, highlighting his strength and strategic mastery. His teammate, Isaac del Toro, finished second, followed closely by young French star Paul Seixas.
Championship Battle Continues
As the race progresses, Lipowitz remains determined. He lies 5:44 minutes behind Pogačar, making him the sixth overall. “It was a super hard stage from the beginning. We can still be happy,” he reflected, focusing on the upcoming challenging stages. With the interactions among riders heating up and the competition for podium positions intensifying, the fight remains far from over.
The 14th stage proved to be an exciting spectacle, attracting countless fans to the Col du Haag, transformed into a biking path that turned into a cauldron of enthusiasm. Lipowitz, alongside Seixas, initiated an attack with just 11.5 kilometers to go, although Pogačar’s response left the competition in the dust again.
Pogačar’s Career Milestones
Pogačar celebrated his 25th career stage win, tying with French cyclist André Leducq in the record book while trailing only legendary Mark Cavendish. Meanwhile, teammate Remco Evenepoel, although facing his own struggles, fought back into the race, doing Lipowitz a favor, allowing both to maintain proximity to their rivals.
Celebrity Support at the Event
Among the crowd was former German cycling star Jan Ullrich, making a notable appearance at the Tour after a twenty-year absence. “I’m extremely happy. This is really my first visit as a guest, and to witness such an epic stage in the Vosges,” expressed Ullrich, who believes strongly in Lipowitz’s abilities. “I definitely think he can make it to the podium,” he added.
With the challenges ahead, including the demanding 15th stage heading to the Plateau de Solaisan, where competitors will face an ascent averaging a steep 9% over 11.3 kilometers, the Tour de France promises to deliver more thrilling moments.
As factors such as strategy, stamina, and the support of devoted fans intertwine, Lipowitz embodies the hope for German cycling, representing a bright future in the sport. The countdown to Paris proceeds, and the excitement continues unabated.
