33 years after the original was published, a YouTuber caused some speculation among fans with a fake trailer for the “third part” of “Home Alone”. Within a week and a half, the video received millions of views. It is now officially clear that there will be no third part with Macaulay Culkin in the role of Kevin McCallister in 2024.
Kevin comes back for revenge
The trailer for the alleged new third part “Kevin’s Revenge” (in German: “Kevin’s Revenge”) brings to life the idea of what it would be like if the adult Kevin were to meet the well-known burglar duo Marv Murchins and Harry Lyme again. In the video, the criminal duo, referred to in the film as the “wet bandits”, lets Kevin know that they have returned with a Christmas card: “We’re back, little buddy.” Kevin then reflects on his childhood who his mother had left him alone at home, and is preparing for a visit from the burglars.
In fact, the third part of the franchise already exists. This was released in 1997, but was not as commercially successful as the first two parts. In the first Home Alone from 1990, Macaulay Culkin plays eight-year-old Kevin McCallister, who is accidentally left at home by his family while they are away for the holidays and has to fend off a criminal duo of burglars alone. In the second part, Kevin gets lost in New York. There are a total of six films, of which Macaulay Culkin only appears in parts one and two.
Most recently, Macaulay Culkin received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He attended this celebration with his wife Brenda Songs and their two children.
