Two years ago, starters in Nijeveen united. It was too expensive to build a house alone, but together it is possible. Together they bought the land from the municipality and arranged everything. They are their own project developer. “Because we do it collectively, it can be done cheaper.”

Construction is expected to start next month. But on the last day of the inspection period, three local residents objected and the aesthetics committee ruled negatively. As a result, the entire project is suddenly delayed. “This may no longer be affordable for some people,” says Van der Laan.

He decides to take action. “It turned out pretty well,” he looks around at all the people passing by. The campaign is known to many Nijeveners. The objectors have withdrawn their objection and are also walking around the site.

Who also comes to have a look is councilor Robin van Ulzen (VVD). He takes a few bites of a piece of cake offered to him. A cake that was handed over to the group of young people by local residents. “This is how I get to know Nijeveen again. Just a small fun action. Although small: I still see quite a group here. I think it’s a fantastic action.”

He is also positive about the entire collective plan of the young people. “As far as I’m concerned, we’re going to start building here very quickly.” Ruben Noort, chairman of the entire group of starters, is also happy to hear this. Like the other young people, he would like to continue living in Nijeveen.

“Nijeveen is a beautiful club. Everyone knows each other. There is a strong desire to continue living here. The fact that such a project is possible here is extra nice. We expect to be able to move into our home in more than a year.”
