Young Ajax did not get further than 1-1 against VVV-Venlo tonight at sports park De Toekomst. The team of coach John Heitinga had the best of the game, but that was not enough to add three points.
In the 13th minute, the team from Amsterdam became really dangerous for the first time. A turning corner landed on Lorenzo Lucca’s head, but his header was cleared by Simon Janssen.
The opponent from Limburg took the lead against the ratio after half an hour of play when club top scorer Sven Braken made the 0-1 from a cross by Carl Johansson with a good header. The revelry didn’t last long, because a good minute later Jong Ajax scored the equalizer again thanks to Christian Rasmussen. The Dane scores his fourth goal of the season.
Lucca and Conceicao out
In the half, Francisco Conceicao and Lorenzo Lucca, undoubtedly because of the Champions League match Ajax – Liverpool, were left behind in the dressing room of Young Ajax. The first chance of the second half was for Brian Koglin. The German headed the ball narrowly over the goal of Young Ajax. On the other side, substitute Gabriel Misehouy fired on the goal of VVV keeper Ennio van der Gouw in vain.
Young Ajax was then the dominant party, only Heitinga’s team had difficulty creating opportunities that were played out. VVV-Venlo almost took the win in extra time when Levi Smans missed a huge chance for the 1-2.
Jong Ajax is in eleventh place in the first division with 16 points. VVV-Venlo is seventh with 18 points. The Limburgers will play against Jong AZ on Friday. Young Ajax will play at home against Willem II next Monday.
