The demand for eggs has been growing for a long time. We asked Iltalehti readers if they eat more eggs than before, and why they want to eat so many eggs.
There are availability challenges for chicken eggs throughout Finland, Iltalehti reported on Friday.
The reason behind the shortage is, among other things, the increased consumption of eggs. The demand for eggs has been growing for a long time both in Finland and in Europe.
We asked Iltalehti readers if they eat more eggs than before. Many people currently prefer to eat eggs because they are a cheap source of protein, said Kesko’s purchasing and sales manager Laura Koponen Iltalehti earlier.
“I have replaced meat”
Piro says that he eats as many eggs as before, i.e. 15 per week. Most respondents to Iltalehti’s survey say they eat 1-2 eggs a day, but some eat five or more eggs every day.
Some use eating eggs as a means of saving. Many people say that they replace the expensive meat with eggs. One reader says that if you ever have to survive on a small budget, then eggs are definitely on the menu.
According to him, eggs are a quick, filling and inexpensive option, for example, as a breakfast and evening snack.
– The price of meat has risen so much that I have replaced the meat almost entirely with eggs. Can’t afford to buy chicken or beef every day anymore. I usually make scrambled eggs out of eggs and eat them as they are. Hunger stays well under control, he says Woman30.

Fits everything
Iltalehti readers can use eggs boiled or fried in a pan. “The egg is quick and easy to use cooked or raw, even on the fly,” he praises Someone Else Can Bake.
– I started eating more eggs when I started the gym hobby. I cook eggs in the fridge and eat 2-4 eggs a day. Sometimes eggs are used in cooking, for example as a substitute for cream, writes the name brand Mary.
– An egg is an easy, nutritious and tasty food source. Previously, I baked one XL size, now I have to bake two M sizes, since XL has not been available, says A caterpillar.
– About three nests of eggs are lost per month. I cook eggs for bread, for example, and I’m hard at baking, he says Breads.

Some readers say that they still eat the same amount of eggs as before. For example Kiki says that he does not eat more eggs than normal. For some, eggs are not good at all.
