The asylum center on this barracks site was only temporary anyway. The city then wanted to integrate the site into a new district directly opposite the barracks, with homes, greenery and small businesses.
But the Ministry of Defense is not selling the site after all and will be housing soldiers there again. What they will actually do there has not yet been decided, and the timing has not yet been determined.
The city of Ypres has not yet been officially informed, but may have to adjust its future plans.
