There is uncertainty about Guido Weijers’ New Year’s Eve conference: both RTL and SBS say they have not concluded a TV deal with the comedian, but his brother says he has. “Part of the process.”
It is a somewhat painful situation for Guido Weijers: he has announced a New Year’s Eve conference for this year, but it is completely unclear who will broadcast it. And yet a few months ago he said on television: “I really think it’s a privilege, but RTL says: ‘As soon as you start doing it, we would like to broadcast it.’”
Tons
Well, RTL knows nothing. And SBS is not interested anyway. Not surprising, says TV authority Tina Nijkamp, because according to her a channel has to pay tons of money for such a conference.
And nowadays that can no longer be recouped, she believes. “Because all advertisers advertise until Christmas Eve, December 24. Well, then everyone is ready and everyone has made their purchases and it is actually closed. December 31 is not a popular day.”
What does brother say?
Arjan Weijers, Guido’s brother and manager, states that the New Year’s Eve conference will be on TV. “Whether there is more clarity about the New Year’s Eve conference? It is just in the theaters and those shows have already gone on sale. You don’t do that if there is no deal,” he says in the New Revu.
Who has a deal been made with? At least not at the public broadcaster, he hints. “Look, Claudia de Breij is already at the public broadcaster with her seniors and Guido hasn’t been there for a long time.”
‘Believe me!’
But if RTL and SBS deny, then there isn’t much left, right? Yet there really is a deal, Arjan insists. “Only it is not up to Guido or me to tell where and when and with whom his New Year’s Eve conference will be on television. That is something the channel itself announces.”
He concludes: “But believe me, you don’t embark on such a process without a TV deal in place.”
