Yavuz Kocaömer, who is considered to be the father of disabled sports in Turkey, passed away in the hospital where he was treated for a while. Yavuz Kocaömer, who is the founder of the Turkish National Paralympic Committee (TMPK) and the Turkish Disabled Sports Assistance and Education Foundation (TESYEV) and is still the chairman of both institutions, is considered to be the sportsman who has the biggest share in the institutionalization and modernization of disabled sports. . Yavuz Kocaömer, who also wrote weekly columns in some newspapers about the disabled, was awarded the German State Order of Merit by the German Presidency in 2011 for his contributions to disabled sports and Turkish-German relations. Yavuz Kocaömer, who is married and has a child, was 74 years old. Kocaömer’s funeral will be buried in Göksu (Anadolu Hisarı) Cemetery, following the noon prayer that will be held at Levent Mosque tomorrow.

Who is Yavuz Kocaömer?
Born in Istanbul in 1948, Yavuz Kocaömer graduated from Istanbul High School and Bilir College, and then Marmara University, Faculty of Economics and Commercial Sciences.


After completing his master’s degree in Frankfurt Johann Wolfgang Goethe University on ‘Worker’s Participation in Management’ in 1972, he served as Personnel Manager and Deputy General Manager at Ekmekçioğlu Holding between 1974-1979. Meanwhile, Steel Industry Inc. He became the head of the marketing company he founded together with KWV mbH, which was established in Frankfurt in 1980.
Yavuz Kocaömer, who speaks English and German, is the father of a child.


Yavuz Kocaömer, who worked for the Tennis Federation in Germany and Turkey for many years and was the tennis captain of Enka Sports Club, served as the Advisor to the President of the Federal German Sports Organization for 3 years in 1989-1991.
He became the Vice-President of the Turkish Disabled Sports Federation in 1997 and served as the President of the same federation in 1998-1999.
Later, with the effect of living with a physically disabled elder brother for 22 years, he assumed the Presidency of the Turkish Disabled Sports Aid and Education Foundation (TESYEV) in 1999 (TESYEV).


In the same year, he founded the Turkish-German Disabled Athletes Support Association in Frankfurt and is still its President.
He was honored with the ‘German State Order of Merit’ in 2011 for his support of handicapped sports in Turkey and Germany.
