Yann Sommer teases FC Bayern

After just six months, Yann Sommer left FC Bayern and joined Inter Milan. The goalkeeper now looked back on his time with the German record champions.

“It made my career even more exciting, more challenges,” he said, referring to the decision to leave his long-time club Borussia Mönchengladbach for Bayern Munich in the winter.

The move to the top club from Munich was “a completely new experience” for the Swiss. Sommer described his time at FC Bayern as “very valuable and successful”.

Suspended through the mud at FC Bayern in the summer?

Summer was often criticized by the series champions. The Swiss national coach Murat Yakin recently made serious allegations. “Yann was pulled through a slingshot. He didn’t deserve that. He became a victim of a mechanism that only happens at Bayern,” he rumbled on “Sport1”.

A little later, Yakin put his statements into perspective and explained to “Bild”: “It’s not about the way Bayern treats a player or, in this case, our goalkeeper, but about how much a Bayern player is in the focus of the media , which is available to experts and the public. FC Bayern players in particular are exposed to this mechanism.”

The situation at Inter in the summer was different than at FC Bayern. “I’ve now come to the club as number 1, that changes a lot,” said the 34-year-old and added: “Inter were looking forward to me, the feeling among each other is good. Milan is a great city and in the club I feel very comfortable.”

After the signing, there were big discussions and a lot of speculation among the Munich team as to whether Sommer was signed as a long-term replacement for Manuel Neuer in goal. At the end of the season, however, there was no longer any use for the former Gladbacher.

Sommer signed a contract with the Serie A club until June 2026. The goalkeeper has not yet conceded a goal in the first three games of the new season.
