Gewar Hajabi alias Xatar is dead. The influential rapper and entrepreneur was reportedly found in a Cologne apartment on Thursday evening (May 8th). The first autopsy results should already be available.
Xatar is dead – first details
According to the Cologne public prosecutor’s office, his body was found on May 8, 2025 around 6:30 p.m. Thereupon a death determination procedure was initiated. As Ulrich Bremer, spokesman for the public prosecutor’s office, told Express, “did not result in any signs of external violence on Friday.” This means that there are currently no indications of a possible external debt.
A chemical-toxicological report was commissioned to clarify the cause of death. However, the evaluation can take several weeks. At first, some media had been wrongly reported that Xatar had died in Berlin. These reports have now been corrected – the site was Cologne.
Farid Bang mourns public
Many college: inside the scene have already reacted. Farid Bang wrote in a moving Instagram post: “May your soul rest in peace, my sincere condolences to your family. You have left German rap as one of the biggest rap legends, I will always keep you well remembered.” Numerous producers, artists and companions also expressed their grief on social media.
From the refugee child to the rap mogul
Xatar was born on December 24, 1981 in Sanandadsch, Iran. In the early 1980s, his parents fled to Iraq with him. During the first Gulf War, his parents were imprisoned by the Saddam Husseins regime due to their Kurdish origin. As a toddler, Xatar spent several months with his parents in prison in Samawa. In 1985 the family came to Bonn with the help of the German Red Cross via Paris, where it lived in the Brüser Berg district.
Xatar founded the label everything or nothing records in 2007. His debut album everything or nothing was published in 2008. During his detention after the gold transporter attack in 2009, he remained musically active and published the album “No. 415. After his early release in December 2014, he reached the album Baba of all BABAS 2015 first place on the German charts.
Xatar leaves his wife Farvah and five children together. In 2024, he had his last public appearances in various media formats, including an interview with “Böhmi sizzles”.
