Alonso is apparently on the verge of being fired

Xabi Alonso came to Real Madrid from Leverkusen and had big plans. But the club is in crisis and the Spaniard’s future is uncertain.
Real Madrid has not been at the top of the table in the Spanish league for a long time and is now four points behind the leaders from Barcelona instead of the five points lead they had at the end of October. In addition, coach Xabi Alonso’s team only managed one win in the last five league games. Most recently, the “Royals” even suffered a 2-0 defeat in front of their home crowd against Celta Vigo. This obviously has consequences.
As the Spanish newspaper “El Mundo” reports, the club officials around President Florentino Pérez and managing director José Ángel Sánchez are said to have had a joint conversation on Monday night after the defeat against Vigo. It was supposedly about Alonso’s future.
Accordingly, the duel in the Champions League against Manchester City on Wednesday (from 9 p.m. in the t-online live ticker) is the last chance for him. The game is therefore a final for the former Leverkusen coach. Apparently there was already talk of a final week before the games against Bilbao (3-0) and Vigo.
After the defeat, Pérez and Ángel Sánchez also discussed whether they should sack Alonso with immediate effect. But according to the report, they decided against it.
According to “El Mundo”, the president and the managing director are said to have discussed possible successors. Accordingly, Zinédine Zidane and Jürgen Klopp are on the club’s list. Zidane knows the club well and has already coached Real twice. He was on the sidelines for two years from 2016 to 2018 and again from 2019. Klopp is currently Global Head of Soccer at Red Bull.
