Michael van Gerwen has been eliminated in the first round of the World Masters darts tournament in Milton Keynes, England. The Vlijmen resident had to acknowledge his superiority in the Australian Damon Heta on Thursday evening. He was too strong for the five-time Masters winner with 3-1.
Van Gerwen had a lot of trouble throwing shots on Thursday evening and Heta took advantage of that. The Australian was actually very sharp finisheshe hit 63 percent of his doubles.
Niels Zonneveld also died in the first round. He had to acknowledge his superiority in two-time world champion Gary Anderson. The darts player from Helvoirt was able to connect for a long time, but in the fifth set the Scot – who achieved an average of 101 with three darts – made the difference: 3-2.
European champion Gian van Veen qualified for the second round of the World Masters tournament. The darts player from Andel beat Ryan Joyce 3-1. Van Veen will meet Englishman Nathan Aspinall in the next round. He was too strong for the Irishman Shane McGuirk in the first round.
