After the teacher shortage, there is a threat of a student shortage: “Almost 40,000 too many seats in our primary schools by 2030”

Camping parents and overcrowded container classes were the norm for years. But while the teacher shortage still needs to be resolved, a future student shortage is rolling onto the playground. By 2030, according to a report by KU Leuven and VUB, there would be as many as 38,443 too many benches in our primary schools. Researchers Karen Huysmans and Kristof De Witte explain the results: “Due to the declining birth rates alone, we have 15,000 fewer students.”
