Emma Aicher raced onto the slalom podium a few days after her downhill coup. Lena Dürr intervened.
A few days ago, Emma Aicher raced to victory in the downhill race in St. Moritz, even stealing the show from speed queen Lindsey Vonn, then on Tuesday evening (December 16, 2025) the slalom coup: The 22-year-old raced over the difficult slope of Courchevel, under the headlights she drove furiously onto the podium and came second. As if the transition from long skis to slalom skis, from gliding curves to fast zigzags, wasn’t a mammoth task.

But the all-rounder also benefited from the support of her teammate Lena Dürr, who was still in third place at halftime. Mikaela Shiffrin was unbeatable on Tuesday evening. Under the stars of Courchevel, with stars on her helmet and stars on her racing suit, the American danced to her 105th World Cup victory. Camille Rast (+1.55 seconds) from Switzerland came second.

In an interview on BR television, Aicher just shrugged about her exceptional performance: “I don’t even know”. She didn’t seem to realize how easy her journey looked to the outside world. “I took a break on Monday and thought ‘Uh’, but then it worked out”. And how it went: For the DSV youngster it was the third podium finish this season and the second time on the podium in the discipline.
What Shiffrin, Rast and Aicher did better than many others: They adjusted to the aggressive snow, drove with the deep tracks that were already visible in the snow at the beginning of the race and reduced the risk where necessary.
Many failures, Holdener causes a moment of shock
The aggressive slope caused problems for many other racers: 17 athletes dropped out in the first round alone. Including favorites like Lara Colturi, Zrinka Ljutic and Katharina Liensberger. The Swiss Wendy Holdener made it to the finish, but then caused a moment of shock: in the finish area she fell over a bump, did a somersault and crashed onto her back – but was able to get up on her own and even took part in the second round a little later. Holdener ended up in 7th place.
