The German ice dancers Jennifer Janse van Rensburg and Benjamin Steff attachment at the World Championships in Boston in the freestyle on Saturday (March 29, 2025) are somewhat weak, but can still be happy. Gold once again went to the hosts.
After twelve in the rhythm dance, the German duo, which had also taken a look at the direct Olympic qualification, wanted to attack again in the freestyle. But that didn’t really want to succeed.
The 31-year-old and her two-year-old partners delivered a decent, albeit reserved and also not error-free idea for music based on “the phantom of the opera”. With 105.98 points, they were almost 5.5 points below their season best. In total, Janse van Rensburg and Steffan came to 179.33 points and 16th place. The Olympic qualification is therefore likely to be fixed.
Gold once again went to the Americans Madison Chock and Evan Bates, who secured the title for the third time in a row. Already after the short program (90.18) the couple was in the lead and showed a flawless freestyle (131.88) under the thunderous cheers of the almost 15,000 spectators in the TD Garden. With 222.06 points, they were clearly ahead of the competition. The other medals went to Piper Gillers and Paul Poirier from Canada (216.54) and the British Lilah Fear and Lewis Gibson (207.11).
