World Cup finals in Soldeu: Alpine skiing – who will get the last crystal globes?

As of: 03/13/2023 4:01 p.m

Most crystal balls are taken. At the World Cup finals in Soldeu/Andorra, the focus is therefore on the final decisions – in the men’s slalom and the women’s Super-G.

For the overall World Cup winners Mikaela Shiffrin and Marco Odermatt, the final races of the season in Soldeu/Andorra will be a show. But while the overall World Cup has been decided and the small crystal globes have been awarded in most discipline ratings, two final decisions are still pending.

“Pentathlon” in the women’s Super-G

The most exciting race is delivered by the women in the Super-G. Five athletes still have a chance of winning the discipline ranking.

The leading Elena Curtoni from Italy is the favorite in the race on Thursday (10 a.m. / live stream). The experienced 32-year-old has 332 points, 19 more than her biggest competitor, the Swiss Lara-Gut-Behrami (313). Which means: If Curtoni only finished second behind Gut-Behrami in the last race, the Swiss would be the big winner. Because: There are 100 points for a win and only 80 points for a second place.

If the outcome of the race is appropriate, the constellation could also be such that even those currently third to fifth place raise the small crystal ball in the air at the end. The candidates for this are Cornelia Hütter (Austria/307 points), Ragnhild Mowinckel (Norway/306) and Federica Brignone (Italy/288).

Slalom: A Swiss against two Norwegians

Two Norwegians and one Swiss will fight for the men’s win of the season in the slalom classification on Sunday (10.30 a.m./1.30 p.m./Livestream). It is most likely that the two Scandinavians will settle the matter among themselves.

Still hoping for the little crystal ball: Henrik Kristoffersen from Norway

Lucas Braathen is currently leading the standings with 466 points ahead of his teammate Henrik Kristoffersen (434). Some distance behind follows the Swiss Daniel Yule (401), who can at best be given outsider chances due to the already large deficit. But that is also possible, namely if Yule wins the race and the two competitors do not make the top seven.

Lena Dürr with a chance of third place in the slalom

From the DSV riders who have qualified for the World Cup final, it’s all about the best possible placements. Among the men, Andreas Sander in Super-G and Linus Straßer in slalom are far ahead. For women, Lena Dürr could still pass Petra Vlhova in the slalom and take third place in the slalom ranking. In the downhill, Kira Weidle could still work her way up a few places from seventh place.
