World Championships in Athletics: Krause last in the 3000 meter final

The two-time obstacle European champion Gesa Krause was completely left behind in the final at the World Championships in Athletics in Eugene.

In 9:52.66 minutes, the 29-year-old third in the 2019 World Cup came in 15th and last place after the 3000 meters. Krause was almost a minute slower than winner Norah Jeruto from Kazakhstan. A cold before the World Cup and a year with further illnesses and injuries as well as only one steeplechase in 2022 did not allow optimal preparation.

“It’s difficult to enjoy when it was so shitty,” she said afterwards on “ARD”. She had super heavy legs and a stumble right at the beginning. “It’s frustrating, I wouldn’t have finished at any other race. I think I lost a lot of grains in the lead-up.” For Krause it was the sixth World Cup final in a row. Lea Meyer from Cologne did not get past the lead after a fall at the moat.

The Kenyan-born world champion Jeruto won in 8:53.02 minutes ahead of the two Ethiopians Werkuha Getachew (8:54.61) and Mekides Abebe (8:56.61).
