Since the beginning of April, Mats Hummels has not been on the pitch for Roma. On the last matchday he was allowed to go in the final minutes.
Mats Hummels’ career is officially ended. The German soccer world champion came to a short assignment in the last game of his AS Rome, and was substituted in the 90th minute at 2-0 against FC Turin.
He no longer had many actions in the three minutes of stoppage time he was allowed to contest. However, Hummels still had a special moment. His teammates celebrated him, threw him in the air and caught him again.
For the Roma, the remote duel with Juventus Turin was still about the Champions League qualification, which is why coach Claudio Ranieri wanted to offer his best team. However, Hummels no longer belonged to the Hummels, which is why he first found himself on the bench when he said goodbye.
The Roma won her game at FC Turin, but it was not enough for the Champions League. Juventus won 3-2 at Kellkind Venice and thus secured fourth place in the table. For Rome it goes to the Europa League, but without Mats Hummels.
