Wood’s three-pack against former club: Nottingham worsens crisis at Newcastle United

First win for Espirito Santo

Nottingham Forest have claimed their first win in the Premier League under new coach Nuno Espírito Santo. Thanks to a hat-trick from striker Chris Wood, the Tricky Trees beat Newcastle United 3-1 on Boxing Day. The “Magpies” initially took the lead thanks to a goal from Alexander Isak, but then gave the game away.

Forest celebrated their first three points after seven games in a row without a win. In the table, the club moved ahead of the competition in the relegation battle: With a five point lead over Luton Town, which will play at bottom team Sheffield in the afternoon and has also played one game less to date, Nottingham is currently in 17th place above the line.

At host Newcastle, however, the sporting crisis worsened. The Champions League participants in the first half of the season suffered their fourth defeat from the last five league games and slipped further in the table to 7th place. Manchester United and Brighton could still overtake them on this match day.
