South Africa has won the Africa Cup of Nations. In the final, the team defeated the hosts from Morocco.

South Africa won the final 2-1 (0-0). Hildah Magaia, who plays for Sejong Sportstoto in South Korea, scored both goals for South Africa (63′, 71′). Tottenham Hotspur’s Rosella Ayane scored for Morocco to connect (80′). Zambia had previously secured third place by beating Nigeria 1-0.

It is South Africa’s first win at the Africa Cup of Nations. Nigeria had won 11 of the 13 previous tournaments, while Equatorial Guinea had won two.

Tournament linked to 2023 World Cup qualifiers

For the four teams from the semi-finals, qualification for the 2023 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand is certain.

An overall ranking of the tournament also identified Cameroon and Senegal as the two teams eligible to represent Africa in a FIFA qualifying tournament involving a total of ten teams from all confederations. There three World Cup teams will be determined.

Germany almost through in the qualification

The German team is the leader of the European World Cup qualifiers in its qualifying group with a three-point lead and has good prospects of direct qualification with two games left.
