The captain’s injury was a shock for the German team. But the processing has been completed – and the view goes ahead.
“It is good that football is not a single, but a team sport,” said Linda Dallmann on Sunday. “The tournament continues.” The injury is of course “a shame”. However, the relief that the captain did not suffer a cruciate ligament tear for the third time, but “only” an inner ligament injury. “The emergency has not occurred,” emphasized Sarai Linder.
So the team was able to look ahead quickly and make important personnel decisions: Gwinn’s deputy Janina Minge moves up to the captain as expected. “She is a quiet guy, but when it matters, she stands in front of the team,” said Linder, who plays with Minge in Wolfsburg. “She will do that very well.”
Sjoeke Nüsken new vice -captain
Sjoeke Nüsken, who has not previously been part of the team council, becomes the new vice captain. However, Sara Däbritz and Kathrin Hendrich did not play in the first game. Together with coach Christian Wück, everyone now agreed that Nüsken took over the position.
“We discussed this in the team and that it will be Sjoeke is not a big surprise for me,” said Dallmann, who certified the Nüsken a “great game” against the Polishes (2-0).
Sjoeke Nüsken is at Janina Minge as the new vice captain.
Gwinn-Schock is processed together
Gwinn’s injury was a big shock – but it was processed together. The day after the game, “Family and Friends” was on the program at the DFB. And so not only her parents and her friend could raise the captain destroyed on the ground. The other families also took part and gave courage and strength. At the latest when everyone was gone again, the “now more and more” mood had arisen.
Gwinn absolutely wanted to be part of team training on Sunday morning – if only as a fence lust, with two forearm supports and later on the replacement bench on the edge of the field. After lunch with the team, the 26-year-old traveled home back to Munich. At Bayern, the treatment of the inner ligament injury will be recorded on Monday.
The DFB explicitly praised communication with Gwinn’s association. Until the second group game – on Tuesday (from 5.15 p.m. in the first and in the live stream) in Basel against Denmark – the time would be too scarce. It is planned that Gwinn, who fulfills her role as a captain with full conviction, will be back on Saturday (9 p.m.) in time for the third game against Sweden to mentally support her teammates.
Carlotta Wamser “made it so outstanding”
As a right -back, she should continue to continue Carlotta Wamser. In any case, your teammates go out of it. Despite great nervousness, the EM debutant showed an impressive performance after her substitution against Poland – defensive and offensive.
“She has been thrown into the cold water and was very convincing. I don’t worry that she can take on the role in sports,” said Dallmann and Linder: “She should simply continue to play and keep her wit.”
The 21-year-old has not yet asked for tips, explained her full-back colleague Linder. “But she also made it so outstanding and doesn’t make the mega pressure either.” Gwinn’s injury was “very well intercepted in the game”.
Dallmann: “Giulia will continue to push us”
And so the conviction is great that the team will also be able to intercept Gwinn’s failure against Denmark. Every player knew “what the plan is”. And in general, the defense work is not just the goalkeeper and the chain of four, but the task of the whole team. “We are now also playing for Giuli,” said Dallmann again.
And in general: “It continues to belong,” says Linder – whether at home, in the stands or on the replacement bench. Dallmann is certain: “Giulia will continue to push us.”
