The Bayern women play Arsenal in the Champions League on Tuesday – for the second time this season at the Allianz Arena. Sarah Zadrazil is looking forward to a fight at a high level: “We want to deliver real fireworks.”
A Champions League quarter-final against Arsenal on the big stage in the Allianz Arena – that’s “always something special” for the Bayern women. This is only the second time that the women of Munich are allowed to play in the big stadium this season. Sarah Zadrazil says the players have fond memories of the first game, against Barcelona in early December: “We have great memories from the last game and we just want to go back out there and put on a real fireworks display. It’s so much anticipation.”
Two teams mirroring each other
In front of a home crowd, coach Alexander Strauss’ team wants to create a good starting position for the second leg in London. The opponents from England are currently fourth in the table and have not celebrated a win for three games. Strauss still has a lot of respect for the team from London “and I hope they also have a lot of respect for us.”
His match plan for the game on Tuesday is: “There are actually two teams that are reflected in the line-up and the spaces they occupy. But there is freedom, there are opportunities for us. There are few, but they are there. ” The Munich women have to use the freedom to create scoring chances. The focus is probably the midfield, where Zadrazil shines. Coach Strauss raves about his player: “She is a player who makes other players look better. I would like to play alongside her.”
Bayern women are in the “flow”
The Austrian is looking forward to “a really cool fight at a high level.” After the last twelve competitive wins in a row, the FC Bayern women are going into the game with a lot of self-confidence. “I think we’ve gotten into a certain flow, that we win games, even if it doesn’t quite fit in terms of performance,” says Zadrazil, describing the current wave of success for the FCB women and adding: “I think so Anything is possible for us this year.” The Bayern women can already lay the foundation for their next big goal, the Champions League semi-finals, on Tuesday.
