The anticipation is great with Friederike “Fritzy” Kromp. The new boss of the footballers has a lot plans in Bremen. But for that she needs patience – and she finds it difficult.

Friederike “Fritzy” Kromp quickly got used to the “Moin”. “You have no choice,” says the 40-year-old laughing when visiting Radio Bremen: “At all day and times, Moin is said here, but that goes down much more relaxed than the ‘Gude’ in Frankfurt. I was always irritated why this was said all day.”

The new trainer of Werder’s Bundesliga soccer players has now really arrived in Bremen. And the feeling that it is quite far away from her homeland Würzburg and her family, as she initially had to find a little wistfully.

The Bremeners are very open, very pleasant and the people around Weser Stadium are very euphoric. You are interested in women’s football-and I’ve never been addressed as much as here in the city.

Bundesliga boss Instead of replacement mom

Kromp is known to many as a television expert, most recently she was very present again at the European women’s championship in summer. Now she has been fully focused on her role as a new boss at Werder-and for the first time head of a Bundesliga team. Before that, she worked in the youth area and was “a replacement mom and educator for the young players,” says Kromp.

Now you face the seasoned players, she always wanted to do that. Only with the first team of teams did a small faux pas go directly to her. “I spoke of our coaching team as ‘we adults’, I noticed that directly and we laughed together.”

Positive zest for action for Werder

The 40-year-old Friederike “Fritzy” Kromp trained the U20 juniors at Eintracht Frankfurt ahead of Werder.

Kromp has brought a lot of positive energy and drive to the Weser, is ambitious and wants to move something in women’s football in Bremen. But she needs patience in her new club – “and I don’t have it,” admits Kromp wink. Others would once describe them as “positive exhausting” and it is probably exactly what Werder needs for the further development of his women’s football department.

Someone who troubles drills who drives and keeps up and does not let go. This will not be easy, because Werder’s management was missing this season to do it like promoted HSV, which will play all games of the Hamburgers in the Volkspark Stadium. At Werder there will only be two so-called highlight games in the Weser Stadium this season.

“The others don’t sleep”

“We have to stay tuned, the others don’t sleep and accelerate,” explains Kromp, “it was the most transferred summer of history, there is a lot of movement in it and many clubs have increased their investment in women’s football.” Werder did that too, but is more in the back in the league comparison.

Competitors in the upper table middle field such as Leipzig or Freiburg have upgraded. “Leipzig particularly strengthened the squad with investments, so I had to swallow,” says Kromp, “that’s already ambitious when we compare ourselves with them.” Werder got six new players, including two new goalkeepers. But Kromp fears that she could lose players until the transfer on August 31.

“Everyone can easily”

Something is happening in women’s football and the traditional Bremen has to be careful not to lose the connection in the league. Last season Werder seventh, cracked the previous club record with 29 points and stormed into the cup final with euphoria.

Repeating the result will be anything but easy, but everyone can easily.

With goalkeeper Livia Peng and striker Sophie Weidauer, the Bremen women lost two important top performers, but in the four test games of the preparation against very difficult opponents, Kromps team said well. This makes the trainer optimistic that she is on the right track with her team.

The season goal is defined together

To get to the top five of the league is still utopian for Werder. But the players will also hope that they can top the result of the past season. Kromp set a workshop for the coming week before the start of the season against Freiburg on Sunday.

“We will sit with the team next week and define the goals together with our team psychologist,” announces Kromp: “I’m looking forward to it and I’m very excited to see what the players have.” Defining the season goal together is important Kromp. To create 30 points or even sixth place – the players should do that.

“They are very ambitious, believe in their strengths and that is a good thing,” says Kromp, but points out: “The others did not sleep and continued to accelerate.” Either way, the Bremen women still have two weeks of preparation. A challenge for her trainer, who strangers with the subject of patience: “It is time to finally start,” she says with a wink.
