The SGS Essen missed the victory against Cologne in the catch-up game of the women’s Bundesliga. At the goalless draw on Tuesday evening, the SGS was the clearly better team, but did not hit the goal.
This gave both NRW clubs to give themselves a decisive air in the table cellar. Essen stays in ninth place, the FC is in tenth place with three points less – at least six points before the relegation rank twelve.
Food dominates the first half
From the beginning the Esseners showed that they wanted to build on the strong performance against Leverkusen. The SGS dominated the game enthusiastic and defensively, but without being scored.
In particular, the busy Lilli Purtscheller initiated several good opportunities, and Ramona Maier also noticed many actions in the storm of Essen. Maier (10th minute), Laureta Elmazi (17th) Annalena Rieke (40th) and again Maier (41st) missed the good chances for the hosts. Little to nothing came from Cologne, Essen goalkeeper Sophia Winkler didn’t have to parry a dangerous shot.
Billa sets the first FC fragrance brand
That changed early in the second round. The first good scene booked again when Elmazi came to the shot after a corner kick from the back area. But Cologne also became dangerous for the first time – Nicole Billa turned cleverly around her opponent and pulled out from around 17 meters massively, but Winkler parried safely (49.).
Little changed in the mixture. The SGS continued to be the better team – it was only less common to generate dangerous degrees. Maier missed a quick attack to use Purtscheller in the center (60th). In the final phase, Maier did better, put Purtscheller exemplary, but who did not use the huge header chance and was clearly failing to miss the gate (80th).
Food stayed tuned and tried everything again, but FC defended the point. It continues for both teams on Saturday (February 15, 2025) – for FC in Freiburg (12 p.m.), Essen welcomes Jena to the next home game (2 p.m.).
