Ben Cramer’s wife suffers from exactly the same condition as Matthijs van Nieuwkerk. She doesn’t dare to go on the highway, not even on the passenger seat. “Then she really has to go to the medication.”
Why is unclear, but at a certain point Matthijs van Nieuwkerk did very much: all the peculiarities that stick to him, including his highway fear. Now it appears that Carla Cramer, Ben Cramer’s wife, is struggling with exactly the same condition. She too can hardly go over the A1, he says in the Party.
Highway
According to Ben it is really a drama. “It is getting worse, that is really not fun. Matthijs van Nieuwkerk I believe it too. It is very bad. We really have to take it into account when driving. If I spontaneously propose to go somewhere in an hour, she asks if that is really necessary.”
He continues: “We are reasonably limited in impulsive things. I am not bothered by it, but my wife really has to take pills, even if she does not drive but is sitting next to me in the car. She’s just driving next to me.”
Brakes
It is really impossible to sit in the car with such a woman next to you, says Ben. “If I have to brake, she also kicks. That seems to me very much for her. It is not fun and it is a disappointment that it is no less. Carla almost never goes to a performance.”
Such a Toetertrauma simply hinders your joy of life, concludes the distant folk singer: “I recently had to perform once in Winterberg, Germany, just past Dortmund. Normally that is the currants in the porridge and we would enjoy the two of us and traveling. But Carla was terribly disappointing.”
