National soccer player Florian Wirtz is getting better and better at English champions Liverpool FC.
The 22-year-old scored his third goal in the last five competitive games in the difficult 4-1 (2-1) win in the third round of the FA Cup against third division club FC Barnsley to make it 3-1 (84th). Wirtz added the goal to the final score from Hugo Ekitiké (90+4).
Previously, ex-Leipziger Dominik Szoboszlai (9th) had put the Reds in the lead with a fantastic long-range shot and ex-Leverkusen player Jeremie Frimpong (36th).
However, Szoboszlai invited the guests to connect with a fatal loss of the ball; Adam Philipps (40th) only had to push in. Wirtz first missed the chance to make it 3-1 while standing alone before he made the preliminary decision following a backheel pass from Ekitiké and then set up a goal for the ex-Frankfurter.
Liverpool last won the FA Cup in 2022.
