Ski jumper Anna Hollandt (formerly Rupprecht) had to end the previous season prematurely. As the 28-year-old later described on social media, the reason for this was mental problems. For the new season she is back with renewed vigor.
Beaming with joy, relaxed, liberated: Anyone who sees Anna Hollandt can hardly imagine that the 28-year-old has had a difficult time. The ski jumper from SC Degenfeld ended last season prematurely due to mental problems. She spoke openly and honestly about her situation on social media in April. She wants to “get away from the sports world” and enjoy a life without sports.
Anna Hollandt: Competitive sports became too much for her
The reactions to her open words on social networks: consistently positive. “I was a bit afraid that there would be stupid news or even hate comments. But there was nothing. That helped me so much to get so much support,” she says in the BR24Sport interview.
Hollandt became team world champion twice. She focused her entire life on sport and lost herself in the process: “For many years I defined myself by success. I thought I was Anna, the ski jumper. But that’s not me. I’m Anna, the funny one, the trustworthy one who you can tell anything to. And I had to learn that.”
After a three-month break from training, the desire for sport returned
She worked on her problems with a mental trainer. “You can’t heal the soul with physiotherapy, it takes time, it has to click in your head.”
For three months she didn’t train at all, occupied herself with things far away from sports. “Two friends of mine had children. Spending time with the little ones brought me down in a completely different way.” After a few weeks off training, she started doing Pilates, cycled a lot and then realized that “there’s still the athlete in me.”
Back on the hill, the love for her sport was back: “I immediately noticed: Okay, I was missing it. The flame is still burning. A huge boulder fell off me.”
What the season will bring remains to be seen. What Anna Hollandt has already proven to herself: She is more than “just” Anna, the ski jumper. And now she wants to start the new season feeling liberated, relaxed and beaming with joy.
