Tennis superstar Novak Djokovic continues to win his 25th Grand Slam triumph. Before he reached Wimbledon’s semi -finals, however, hard work was to be done against Fabio Cobolli on Wednesday (July 9th, 2025). Ultimately, the Serb won 6: 7 (6: 8), 6: 2, 7: 5 and 6: 4.

But before that, he had to survive many critical phases against the man, who had never reached the third round of one of the Big Four tournaments in 15 attempts. And after an hour and 43 minutes, Djokovic even briefly killed.

Celebrate fans – run by Djokovic stopped

The audience in Wimbledon celebrated his opponent at that moment. Cobolli laughed relaxed, he had just won a spectacular point after a long rally. Djokovic went to risk, but in the end the Italian stretched his fist up: at that moment he had managed to stop Djokovic’s run, which had just played into a frenzy.

Already in the first set, the 23-year-old Florentine had shown that he can play really good tennis and that he would not penetrate the top 20 of the world rankings in Wimbledon for nothing. Powerful from the baseline, but also equipped with an excellent counter game and also nervous at the crucial moment in the tie break – so Cobolli got the first round with a sharp outward surcharge.

Smooth march in the second set

After that, it looked like the course that the fans had probably expected at the Center Court, although Cobolli had at least turned off the Croatian US Open Champion Maric Cilic in the round of 16: the “Djoker” marched. Two breaks clearly brought Djokovic in forehand, in the quick run he won the second set 6-2 and also had break again in the third round.

But Cobolli was far from being beaten, he managed the rebreak to 2: 2 after 1:43 hours – that was the moment when the Serb knee got to his knees. But only briefly. A duel developed again at eye level. Until the 5: 5 in the third set, the spectators experienced great rallies, the momentum changed back and forth, suddenly everything seemed possible again.

World-class ball change With praise, smash and stop

Then Djokovic conjured up. With Cobolli and 0:15, the Italian was able to counter a praise and then a smash, but he was powerless against the backhand stop at the end of this world-class rally. Djokovic led 30-0, made the break and shortly afterwards also win the third set.

In the fourth round it was almost a bit tragic. It was 4: 4, again it was a competitive game. Djokovic had a breakball, but Cobolli remained brave, hammering the balls from the baseline so consistently that he only had to put the ball in after the following network attack.

Abbreviation slip at the second match ball

But then his wrist suddenly trembled, he pressed the ball into the net and held his hands in front of his face. A game later, Cobolli’s personal Wimbledon fairy tale seemed ended, Djokovic had two match balls – and suddenly slipped out in the second.

The Serb reached the adductors, remained on the lawn for half a minute. The referee and cobolli looked like him, the Italian even brought him the racket he had lost in his fall. Djokovic thanked for the sporty very fair gesture, got up again and then pulled through: two balls later he was celebrated by the fans and can now look forward to the duel with Jannik Sinner. Sinner won his quarter -finals against Ben Shelton 7: 6, 6: 4 and 6: 4.
