Willy and René confident: ‘Feyenoord will get a big beating here on Sunday’

Things were a little less smooth at PSV for a few weeks, but the Eredivisie leaders have now regained the form they displayed before the winter break. PEC Zwolle was beaten 7-1 at home and PSV can therefore look forward to Sunday’s top match against Feyenoord with complete confidence. Club icons Willy and René van de Kerkhof also expect a victory for their club. “They will want to eat Feyenoord,” says René. “I think Feyenoord will get a big hit here.”

However, it will not be as easy as Saturday in Zwolle. : PEC played very daringly,” says club icon Willy van de Kerkhof in the Willy and René Podcast of Omroep Brabant. “You can also call that stupid indeed.” Brother René is pleased to note that PSV is again just as dominant as in the last weeks of 2023. “I compare it with the away match against AZ when PSV won 0-4. The wingers Lozano and Bakayoko are also starting to get back into shape for the important matches to come.”

Comparison with ‘The Golden Head’.

The PSV player who draws the most attention is captain Luuk de Jong. Thanks to his three goals in Zwolle, he is now the top scorer in the Premier League. Willy and René draw a nice parallel with their former co-star Ralf Edström, nicknamed the golden head. “He formed a great combination with Willy van der Kuylen,” Willy remembers. “It was a pleasure to watch those two, especially when we played against Ajax. The legendary Barry Hulshoff of Ajax always said: ‘There is no limit to that tall one, he cannot be stopped.’ And he was also a good header.”

“In terms of golden head, Edström and Luuk de Jong are quite evenly matched,” says René. “Luuk is also a real phenomenon, it’s great that he plays football with us. When Edström came, trainer Rijvers said that he was a strong striker, so we threw the balls were always high for the pot. But then it suddenly turned out that he could also play football… He could do that a little better than Luuk.”

“Babadi can become an absolute star at PSV.”

Another standout player for PSV on Saturday was Isaac Babadi, who has still not signed with PSV. “If he stays at PSV, he can become an absolute star,” Willy is sure. “An Arjen Robben was also able to leave quickly, but he chose to stay here longer. He reached the top and Babadi can do that too.” René’s patience has now run out with the talent. “If he doesn’t want to stay then it’s the end of practice with that boy. Then we can also send him back to Rotterdam on the bus on Sunday.”

After all, Feyenoord is also mentioned as Babadi’s new employer, just like Ajax. “He probably doesn’t want to go to Amsterdam,” thinks René, referring to Ajax’s poor play lately. “That match in Norway was so scandalously bad. Princess Berhuis shoots a ball in, but you don’t see it anywhere else. I have really never seen a team play football as poorly as Ajax did last Thursday.”
