Willem II stands for a serious task to stay in the Eredivisie. The Tilburgers lost 2-1 to FC Dordrecht on Wednesday evening. Willem II has to win for the first time in 2025 on Saturday evening during the return at home to keep a chance on a ticket for the final of the play-offs.
Willem II did not win a match in the Eredivisie this calendar year, but the 1-1 draw against NAC last Sunday gave a little confidence. There was nothing to notice on Wednesday evening in the M-Scores Stadium in Dordrecht, because it was the home team who was in danger. Soon left back John Hilton got a huge opportunity, after a failed corner on the other hand, but goalkeeper Thomas Didillon-Hödl tapped the ball next to it.
After 18 minutes it was hit. Spits Devin Haen headed a cross from Jari Schuurman towards far corner and the French goalkeeper had no answer. After 29 minutes it was hit again, this time by Sem Valk from a corner from Schuurman. The players of Willem II were defeated, the trust was given a huge dent due to the 2-0 deficit. Nevertheless, the Tilburgers lived again after 35 minutes, when Ringo Meerveld awarded a good action with a goal.
Opportunities Willem II
In the second half it was the guests looking for the attack. However, scoring has been a problem with Willem II for the entire season. With 34 goals in 34 games, Almere City FC (23) was less productive in the Eredivisie. Emilio Kehrer got a big chance after more than an hour, but shot just wide.
Substitute Jeremy Bokila also had the 2-2 before shooting, only he hit his direct opponent. At FC Dordrecht, Spelbeteler Schuurman was dangerous with a long shot towards the Bovenhoek, but the home team often limited itself to defending the lead.
In the last fifteen minutes the one -way traffic towards the goal of FC Dordrecht. Jesse Bosch got a good shooting opportunity and shortly thereafter a clips situation followed in the goal area, where the ball just crossed. Bokila left a huge opportunity in the extra time. The Tilburg pressure no longer yielded an equalizer and so Willem II will be in front of a tough task next Saturday evening.
The winner of FC Dordrecht – Willem II will play against the winner of the diptych FC Den Bosch – Telstar on 29 May and 1 June.
