Will the DFB Bayern lose super talent Pavlović to Serbia?

Bayern’s Aleksandar Pavlović recently dreamed of the home European Championship with the German national team on t-online. But another association wants to thwart these plans.

In FC Bayern’s most important game of the season, head coach Thomas Tuchel again relied on Aleksandar Pavlović in central midfield. The 19-year-old justified the trust once again, was one of Munich’s best players and earned a t-online grade of 2.

No wonder that the midfield talent has long been the focus of the national team. Or rather: the national teams. In addition to the DFB, where Pavlović has previously played in the junior teams, the Serbian Football Association is also intensively courting him and wants to dissuade the super talent from FC Bayern from possible appearances for the German national team.

The FSS association officially announced that there was a meeting last weekend between the sporting director Stevan Stojanovic and the parents of the 19-year-old Munich native. However, he was told that Pavlović did not want to make a decision at the moment and that this should happen after the European Championships in Germany, Stojanovic reported.

Pavlović tells t-online: “The home European Championship would be a dream of mine”

The Serbian association already wanted to nominate Pavlović for the A team for the upcoming international matches in March and the subsequent European Championships in Germany. Now the hope is that the midfielder will wear the Serbian jersey from autumn onwards, said Stojanovic. Pavlović played for the German U20 last November and is still eligible to play for the senior national teams of both countries.

In an interview with t-online, Pavlović recently revealed a clear tendency as to which country he would most like to play for. When asked whether the opportunity to play at the home European Championships with the German national team wasn’t a big dream for him that he already had in the back of his mind, he replied: “Of course. That would be a dream of mine. That would be very nice.” Being able to recommend himself with further strong performances at Bayern in the next few weeks is “definitely a great extra motivation,” continued Pavlović.

He reacted somewhat more cautiously with a view to the approaching nomination of the DFB squad for the international matches in March and the possibility of being appointed by national coach Julian Nagelsmann. “We’ll see if that happens. I don’t know anything about that yet,” he said, grinning mischievously.

That is the DFB’s plan with Pavlović

According to a report from Sky, Pavlović should first be nominated for the upcoming appearances of the German U21s. Even after that, a change of nation would still be possible. But there is still a nomination for the final squad of the German team for the home European Championship. At the beginning of February, t-online asked the question, which is now becoming more and more pressing, as to whether Pavlović is on the verge of a big European Championship surprise. That wouldn’t be all that surprising anymore.

Because Pavlović has regularly impressed for Bayern this season. In total he has made 14 competitive appearances in which he has already scored two goals. He was also in the starting line-up again when they advanced in the Champions League against Lazio Rome.

Most recently, 18-year-old Can Uzun from 1. FC Nürnberg decided against a future in the German national team and for Turkey. When it comes to Pavlović, the DFB shouldn’t hesitate too long if it doesn’t want to lose another top talent.
