Bayern Munich’s Pavlovic: Will the DFB lose the next top talent?

As of: March 7, 2024 12:42 p.m

The Serbian association is intensively recruiting Aleksandar Pavlovic from FC Bayern. After Can Uzun from 1. FC Nürnberg, the Munich native could be the next top talent to decide against the German national team.

Aleksandar Pavlovic has had a steep development at FC Bayern this season. At the age of 19, he impressed coach Thomas Tuchel on the Asian tour in the summer – and hasn’t stopped since. He was on the pitch for almost half of the possible playing time in the Bundesliga for the German record champions, and was also in the starting eleven eight times. There is much to suggest that the Munich native can assert himself at FC Bayern in the long term. He can already keep up with the pace at FC Bayern.

Serbia’s coach planned appointment to the senior teamNational team

This has not gone unnoticed by the Serbian Football Association. Serbia national coach Dragan Stojkovic wanted to nominate Pavlovic, the son of Serbian parents, for the upcoming international matches in March. At least that’s what national team director Stevan Stojanovic stated on the association’s website. They have been in contact with Pavlovic and his parents for “months”. There was also a personal meeting in Munich in order to integrate the midfielder into the senior national team “in an appropriate manner”. There is “no doubt” about Pavlovic’s level.

To Uzun? Next lost top talent?

The DFB is much more cautious. Pavlovic only made his debut for the Germany U20 national team in November 2023. So is the DFB now threatened with the next loss of a top talent? Only on Monday, March 4th The Nuremberg shooting star Can Uzun announced that he would play for Turkey in the future. “I listened to my heart,” Uzun wrote on Instagram.

Pavlovic hesitates, association optimistic

It is currently still unclear how Pavlovic will decide; he has also informed the Serbian association of this. “We were told that Aleksandar does not want to make a final decision at the moment,” Stojanovic is quoted as saying. Pavlovic wants to take his time until after the European Championships. “We understand that. We will continue to monitor him and keep in touch. In the end we will see how the epilogue ends,” said Stojanovic. They wish Pavlovic good luck for the rest of the season and hope “that he will wear the Serbian jersey from autumn onwards”.

The DFB will want to prevent that. According to media reports, U21 coach Antonio Di Salvo is currently planning to be nominated for the European Championship qualifiers against Kosovo and Israel.
