Will it take place without Cliff Williams?

The rumor mill about AC/DC is churning – and this time it’s all about Cliff Williams. It is rumored that the bassist will no longer be part of the upcoming tour. The sources for these speculations are so far unconfirmed.

Comedian and actor Dean Delray claimed to have learned from a “highly reliable source” that AC/DC will be touring with a new bassist this year. He shared this information via Instagram. The comedian emphasized that he would not reveal the name of the new musician, but would rather leave it to the band themselves.

Cliff Williams’ resignation

The news comes as no surprise. After all, Cliff Williams announced his retirement at the end of the 2015-2016 “Rock Or Bust” tour. Nevertheless, he returned for the recording sessions of the album “Power Up” (2020) and for the Power Trip Festival 2023. However, in a podcast interview three years ago, Williams made it clear that he would not be touring with the group again – information that seemed to have been overlooked by many fans.

Cliff Williams’ departure from the band in 2016 was influenced by health problems, including a severe period of dizziness. However, the return of singer Brian Johnson and drummer Phil Rudd convinced him to become part of the band again. The bassist emphasized that his participation in the recording of “Power Up” was a tribute to the late rhythm guitarist Malcolm Young.

What we know about the 2024 AC/DC tour

The Australian band hasn’t even officially announced this year’s tour yet. A screenshot previously circulated online that supposedly shows AC/DC’s concert dates for 2024, as we reported on January 10th. First, “oe24.at” and the “Westfälische Nachrichten” reported on concert dates that a man named Marco Meierhöfer is said to have published on his YouTube channel. This post can no longer be found. If the dates were right, the hard rock legends would appear eleven times this spring in Germany, twice in Austria and once in Slovakia.

It remains to be seen whether there is actually any truth to these rumors. As is well known, the group does not promote comprehensive communication with the public, which makes the situation even more opaque.
