Will it soon be possible to pay cash again on the bus in Berlin?

Berlin gets a time-limited 29-euro ticket for local transport. It should only be valid within the city from October to December and only be available as a subscription

The House of Representatives is campaigning to make it possible to buy tickets on buses again with cash.

During a debate on Thursday, five of the six parliamentary groups called on the Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG) to reintroduce the payment option with coins and banknotes, which was abolished two and a half years ago due to the pandemic, as quickly as possible.

Several speakers argued that the practice of only allowing cashless payment to the bus driver limits people’s mobility. In addition, this contradicts the tariff regulations within the Verkehrsverbund Berlin-Brandenburg (VBB).

Only the CDU did not join the demands. “Berlin has other problems than whether paying in cash is possible or not,” said her traffic expert Oliver Friederici (52).
