Will Belgium be able to reduce gas consumption by 15 percent as Europe wants? “The unfortunate thing is that there are 2 or even 3 gas-fired power stations running continuously”

The European Commission proposes to reduce the gas consumption of the Member States by 15 percent from 1 August. The measure comes in order to become less dependent on the whims of Russian President Putin. Because it is currently unclear whether – and for how long – the Russian gas pipeline Nord Stream 1 will reopen. But is that realistic, such a gas saving of 15 percent? Are the plans ready in our country for how we are going to achieve this? Energy expert Joannes Laveyne (UGent) explains.
