Will Baumann also extend? Werder Bremen wants to look from year to year

New main sponsor pays more

After his own contract extension as CEO, Klaus Filbry is also hoping for a longer cooperation with sports director Frank Baumann at Werder Bremen. “I’m keen on the task of continuing to tackle the challenges in the new management collection,” said Filbry, who has now signed with the Bundesliga club until June 30, 2026. “And I hope that this is also a signal for Frank that he wants to do something again.”

Baumann is still under contract with Werder until June 30, 2024. In the past, the 47-year-old had repeatedly said that he wanted to take a break when he was 50 at the latest. Tarek Brauer and Anne-Kathrin Laufmann have recently joined the management team.

Bremen’s supervisory board boss Marco Fuchs is currently not assuming that Baumann will make a quick decision. “There is nothing urgent in the pipeline now,” said Fuchs. “In the sporting field you have to look at it from year to year. Frank has been connected to Werder for so long, we all know that it’s not about long-term planning. I think he feels good in the current situation – and that also applies to Werder after the sporting successes.

Werder Bremen: relegation and Bundesliga return under Baumann – New main sponsor pays more

Ex-professional Baumann has been responsible for the sporting area at the Green-Whites for a good seven years. Under Sport Managing Director Baumann, SVW spent a total of 101.5 million euros on new signings, which equates to 16th place in a comparison of all Bundesliga clubs – right ahead of HSV with 90.6 million euros. On the other hand, the Bremen side received income from player sales of around 110 million euros, which means a transfer plus of around 8.5 million euros for that period – since 2016/17. In 2021, the North Germans were relegated to the 2nd division, but managed to return directly to the upper house.

Clemens Fritz, head of professional football, could take on Baumann’s role in the future. “Clemens is doing a great job and is far from exhausted. He is suitable for a lot – at Werder, but also outside of Werder,” emphasized the head of the supervisory board Fuchs (quoted via “DeichStube”). However, the club has announced that after eleven years it will start the 2023/24 season with a new main sponsor. Instead of “Wiesenhof” or “Green Legend”, the Bremen team will wear a different lettering on their jerseys. The “Picture” According to the report, a new company has been found by 2026, which will pay EUR 6.75 million a year in the future. However, “Wiesenhof” is to remain as a “top partner” and bring in around EUR 1.3 million per year instead of EUR 6 million.
