Wilfred Genee ridiculed Ruud de Wild for minutes on national television last night. “Incomprehensible. They’re a bit exhibitionists, aren’t they, who do things like that?”
Ruud de Wild and Olcay Gulsen’s new soap on the country’s most watched channel, NPO 1, is a flop. Rightly so, think the men of Today Inside. They watched the first episode and were stunned, especially the scene in which Ruud goes swimming and then acts very hysterical in the car.
‘I do not feel well!’
We see Ruud and Olcay sitting silently next to each other in the car as they drive through an industrial estate in Amsterdam. Suddenly Ruud pushes his arm into Olcay’s side as he looks straight into the camera. Then she looks at him in shock. He appears to have a kind of panic attack from swimming. “Should I drive? Keep breathing, huh?”
It all looks so absurd that it seems as if Ruud and Olcay are deliberately making a kind of parody on a real-life soap. Wilfred recreated this scene for minutes last night Inside today: “I am not feeling well. Can you take the wheel for a second? I’m just not feeling well. Oh, oh, oh. I don’t feel well right now. Ohhh!”
Amateur drama
What does Johan Derksen think of it? “All acted, huh? It’s amateur drama!”
Wilfred: “Yes, what was that?!”
Johan: “Wilfred, I was watching, didn’t I, but how overestimated you must be if you assume that what happens behind your front door is of interest to millions of people. Look, a John de Bever like that does it, I understand that, he gets more performances from it. And the Meilandjes do it to fill their pockets.”
Incomprehensible
But Johan doesn’t understand anything about Ruud. “I didn’t understand that PowNed is doing this. It doesn’t fit there. Every soap goes down because over time editors and producers have to come up with things they have to do to keep it fun, which makes people do things they normally never do.”
Wilfred: “But also just on NPO 1, right? Not a B channel, but NPO 1.”
Table guest Job Knoester: “I find it incomprehensible that the NPO lends itself to such things.”
Exhibitionists
Johan: “I don’t understand those people either. That disc jockey is quite a serious guy and I think that girl is serious too. He can occasionally talk very sensibly about subjects. That they lend themselves to this…”
Wilfred: “They really wanted it themselves. Ruud in particular really wanted it.”
Johan: “I find that incomprehensible. They’re kind of exhibitionists, aren’t they, who do that sort of thing? They really want to be seen.”
‘Ruud in bed!’
The ‘affected’ Ruud was one yesterday running gag in VI. At one point, Wilfred was supposedly so off track that he couldn’t even close the broadcast anymore. He then exchanged seats with René van der Gijp.
René: “Tomorrow we have Ruud here in bed! Not at the bar, but in bed! Hahahahaha.”
