Wilfred Genee laughs at himself: new competitor is viewing figures fiasco

Wilfred Genee laughs at the doorstep of the new television season. The new direct competitor that started on purpose a week earlier, VTBL, turns out to be a true viewing figures fiasco.

After a failed attempt in 2019 with Humberto Tan as presenter, RTL is going to try again with the football talk show VTBL. This time the presentation is alternately in the hands of Simon Zijlemans, who was still a sidekick in the Humberto season, and Frank Evenblij. Another important change is the broadcasting time.

Viewing figures fiasco

Where VTBL could be seen on Sunday evening in 2019, to avoid competition with VI, RTL does dare to stand directly opposite the successor of Veronica Inside. Wilfred Genee starts on Monday with the new Veronica Offside, without Johan Derksen and René van der Gijp, but with a number of other familiar names.

For the time being, Veronica Offside, in which Andy van der Meijde, Wesley Sneijder and Wim Kieft have a regular role, does not seem to really have to worry. VTBL may have started a week earlier, but the first episode yesterday did not exceed 126 thousand viewers (3 percent market share) on RTL 7.

“Ouch, ouch, ouch”

Already such a bad score and Wilfred hasn’t even started yet. The agony seems imminent for VTBL: both programs will face each other every Monday and Friday at 8.30 pm. “Ow, ouch, ouch. The renewed VTBL cannot make a dent in a pack of butter with the first episode,” says viewing figures expert Tina Nijkamp.

Tina points to her ratings juice channel Note that RTL 7 attracted even more viewers at the same time last week with a random film repeat, namely 140 thousand viewers. “First setback for RTL in this golden summer for them.”

“How long are we going to last this time?” Simon wondered in the talk show. Theo Janssen: “Well, I hope a little longer than last time.” Simon: “About ten years. Should be OK.”

Smartest on one

De Slimste Mens won prime time yesterday with 1.4 million viewers (32 percent) on NPO 1. Immediately after, Nieuwsuur had an excellent 605 thousand viewers (16 percent).

The NPO 1 combination MAX Vakantieman and Het Familiediner was good for 993 thousand viewers (22 percent) and 652 thousand viewers (18 percent), while competitor RTL 4 with B&B Vol Liefde attracted 712 thousand viewers (17 percent).

Furthermore, RTL 4’s Buy Without Watching (470 thousand) and RTL 5’s 112 Today (462 thousand) were the most popular. SBS 6 stuck at 230 thousand viewers (5 percent) for BoerenBIbs en Beauties.

Programs that did not make it to the top 15 are, among others, How goes that at your home (468 thousand), Shownieuws (329 thousand) and Shownieuws Zomeredition (127 thousand).
