Wildfire risk decreased, although Northeast Drenthe remains very dry

In Drenthe, the risk of a rapidly spreading wildfire has decreased. The highest alert phase for the risk of a wildfire also no longer applies in Groningen, Friesland, North Holland, North Brabant and South Limburg, the safety regions report.

In the provinces where the risk has decreased, it has rained in the past two weeks and there were sometimes even showers. There are other areas in the Netherlands where hardly any rain has fallen and where the precipitation deficit is already above that of the 5 percent driest years. This is the case, for example, in Northeast Drenthe and the Vechtdal in Overijssel.

In areas where, according to the fire service, there is still the highest alarm phase, a fire and burning ban applies almost everywhere in nature. Also on campsites and on the waterfront no fires or barbecues may be lit. The fire brigade deploys extra equipment to respond to fire reports and patrols above the Veluwe with a small plane, among other things.
