The evening of a carnival celebrant during the Eleventh of the Eleventh could have ended very differently on Tuesday. After a day full of celebrations, a man decided to pee along the water of the Zuid-Willemsvaart in Den Bosch, but fell into the canal.
“Due to the high edge, he was unable to get out of the water independently,” the police wrote on Instagram. The man shouted for help several times, but no one heard him.
Called 911 myself
Miraculously, he managed to call 911 from the water. This way the control room could see exactly where he was in the water. Emergency services eventually lifted the man out of the water.
He could laugh about it himself, but according to the police he was very lucky. “Cold canals and ditches are almost always fatal for drunken urinators.”
Hypothermia symptoms
The man was in the water for a total of about ten minutes and was then taken to hospital with symptoms of hypothermia.
