Alpine actually already has its driver duo together for the upcoming Formula 1 season with newcomer Jack Doohan and veteran Pierre Gasly. But the wild speculation about Franco Colapinto’s commitment continues. Now an Argentine sports newspaper has poured oil into the rumor fire in the premier class.
The Silly Season of Formula 1 has already begun, and the new cars are still being screwed together: Around the 2024 season finale in Abu Dhabi, rumors increased that Alpine would rely on the services of Franco Colapinto instead of Jack Doohan in 2025 could.
In keeping with this, “Diario Olé” now reports that the French Formula 1 racing team is about to sign Colapinto – with the corresponding consequences for Jack Doohan, who was actually planned as the second driver alongside Pierre Gasly.
Accordingly, “a very reliable source” has revealed to the Argentine sports newspaper that Alpine is in the process of reaching an agreement with Colapinto, who attracted attention last season as a replacement for the fired Logan Sargeant at Williams, but does not have a cockpit for 2025 got it because the British have already signed Carlos Sainz and Alex Albon as regular drivers.
Formula 1: Does Doohan only have a short contract with Alpine?
Colapinto’s presentation will take place “sooner rather than later,” writes “Diario Olé” and speculates that it could even happen this week.
In any case, Doohan has a contract that only applies to the first six F1 races, which would mean that Colapinto could take over the controls at the Imola Grand Prix in mid-May.
However, the Argentine newspaper goes on to say that contracts in Formula 1 are not worth much, as shown by the expulsion of Sergio Pérez from Red Bull Racing.
Accordingly, Colapinto could possibly start earlier.

Things get even wilder when you look at a screenshot that “Diario Olé” has of Colapinto’s father’s Instagram profile. This shows Franco’s father Aníbal with friends and garnished with the sentence: “There are only a few of us who already know everything… F1 2025”.
This posting can no longer be found and has been deleted, according to the Argentine newspaper. Nevertheless, it serves to further substantiate the rumors.
Recently, however, Alpine special advisor Flavio Briatore also ensured that Colapinto remained in the focus of speculation. In an interview he admitted that the F1 racing team was looking into the Argentine and did not rule out a commitment.
