Minouche van der Gijp, the wife of René van der Gijp, was the straw that broke the camel’s back for PowNed boss Dominique Weesie by spouting her opinions. “We canceled it.”
Dominique Weesie’s broadcaster PowNed was actually going to make a new talk show for the public broadcaster, namely Het Mediacircus, but that is not going to happen. Next month’s premiere has been canceled because things are really getting out of hand in the media, he thinks. According to him, there are really far too many opinions to see and hear.
Opinion circus
Dominique is completely fed up with it and does not want to contribute to that circus of opinions. “We returned the program because of too many opinions on television. The program was devised two years ago. At that time there was no News of the Day, for example,” he says in The Telegraph.
There are now more and more such opinion platforms. “Nowadays you are bombarded with opinions. I get a little uncomfortable when I hear Job Knoester explain the situation in Ukraine or René van der Gijp’s wife thinks she should have something to say about the war in Gaza.”
Sneak at Minouche
Minouche van der Gijp even called at one point that Wierd Duk should be expelled from Today Inside. Dominique thinks it’s bizarre that all these people consider themselves important enough to enter the public debate. “It’s great that they apparently feel called to do this, but that’s a reason for us to give Mediacircus back.”
What will be on TV instead of The Media Circus? The NPO says: “The program has not yet been allocated a broadcasting spot, so there is no question of a replacement program.”
