Wife of murdered ‘Witte’ tried to poison him twice

The wife of the murdered Martinus van de Sande from Eindhoven has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder or attempted aggravated assault. She allegedly tried to poison him twice. Martinus, who was known as ‘Witte’, died in a double murder in Belgium last year. The 56-year-old Eric V. from Eindhoven is imprisoned for this.

Martinus was shot dead in July last year when he tried to protect his niece Marly Schapendonk against her ex. That happened in her home in Belgium. Marly also died then. Eric V. was arrested in Eindhoven a day after the murder. He allegedly stalked Marly and entered her apartment with a firearm.

In August last year, the police in the Netherlands received information about 40-year-old Martinus. He may have been the victim of one or more attempted murders before. After investigation by the police, a 35-year-old woman was arrested as a suspect. It concerns Debby V., his wife.

Debby allegedly tried to poison her husband at least twice, possibly due to relationship problems. This is reported by the Public Prosecution Service in Den Bosch. This would have happened in 2021 and 2022.

Ninety days longer
The woman was arrested on Monday 27 February at her home in Eindhoven. She is suspected of attempted murder or attempted aggravated assault. Last Wednesday, the court in Den Bosch decided that she will be detained for at least ninety days longer. The investigation is still ongoing. According to the Public Prosecution Service, this investigation is separate from the investigation into the double murder in Belgium.

Martinus, born in Best, was known to his friends as ‘Witte’ and was a big PSV fan.
